The Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources (MoHR) recently conducted inspections at three factories in Jalan Kapar under the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

The inspections uncovered multiple violations, including overcrowded rooms, inadequate kitchen facilities, and missing mattresses. The affected dormitories housed both foreign and some local workers. In total, 526 foreign workers from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar were impacted. Employers will be charged upon completion of the investigation.

HR Minister V. Sivakumar emphasized that non-compliant accommodations pose serious safety risks to employees, especially during pandemics or unforeseen emergencies. The Ministry will intensify monitoring to ensure that all workers—both local and foreign—are provided with safe and compliant housing.
